Tenant/Landlord Guides

  • HousingNYC.com - As the home of the guide you are currently viewing, it provides comprehensive and up-to-date information regarding the New York City housing market and the rent-stabilization system. Includes the latest guidelines for stabilized apartments, housing-related reports and studies, fact sheets on tenant and landlord rights, and email Q&A.
  • NYC Affordable Housing Resource Center - This section of NYC.gov, launched in January 2006, offers information on all aspects of City housing, including renting an apartment, buying a home, affordable housing lottery listings and apartment maintenance issues. It also includes links to several city agencies that are involved in housing-related matters.
  • New York State Housing Search - NYHousingSearch.gov is a free public service provided by the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR), the New York State Department of Health (DOH) and Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD). NYHousingSearch.gov allows people to locate available housing that meets their individual and family needs at a rent they can afford. The Web site lets people look for rental housing using a wide variety of criteria and special mapping features. The service also provides links to housing resources and helpful tools for renters such as an affordability calculator, rental checklist, and information about renter rights and responsibilities.
  • NOLO.com - A helpful website for those needing assistance on legal issues related to renting, such as: leases and tenant agreements; tenant selection and housing discrimination; rent and security deposits; repairs and privacy issues; and landlord liability for tenant injuries.

  • Citysearch - This guide to N.Y.C. and other cities has an online yellow pages where you can search for apartment brokers, movers, etc.
  • CityRealty.com - Provides listing of apartments for sale and rent, a guide to neighborhoods, a renter's guide with tips on finding apartments, a way for brokers to list apartments and more, primarily featuring more upscale opportunities.
  • Move.com - Provides listing of apartments for sale and rent in NYC and nationwide, plus information on financing, home improvement, decorating and moving.
  • ApartmentSearch.com - A useful site for those seeking to move to another city; has links to products and services in major cities across the country.
